Wie is Emile Ekonda Elasha?
Nederlandse zakenman van Congolese afkomst, geboren in Lodja op 25 maart 1968. Hij volgde basisonderwijs aan de katholieke school in Djalo en secundair onderwijs wiskunde-wetenschappen aan het ETETE college, eveneens in Djalo. Hij deed een voorbereidend jaar en volgde 3 jaar architectuur (van de 5) aan het Institut des Bâtiments et Travaux Publics in Kinshasa Gombe. In 1994 kwam Emile Elasha in Nederland terecht als politiek vluchteling, nadat hij drie keer gevangen had gezeten in de Makala gevangenis, net als veel andere studenten die campagne voerden voor democratie in Zaïre (de toenmalige benaming voor Congo onder president Mobutu).
In 1996 volgde hij een studie hydraulische, zonne- en windenergie aan de Universiteit van Enschede (Nederland). Ook volgde hij een cursus Import/Export en handelscommunicatie. Ondertussen werkte hij van 1997 tot 2001 in de inkoop/verkoop van exotische producten (o.a. edelstenen) in het Nederlandse Amelo, onder de naam ‘ELAK’. Een paar jaar later volgde hij een diamantopleiding in Amsterdam en maakte hij kennis met de diamantwereld in Antwerpen.
Vanaf 2000 ging hij geregeld terug naar Congo om het verkrijgen van een concessie voor diamantontginning te onderzoeken. Hij was diep geraakt door de armoede van de bevolking en begon plannen te maken voor een meer menswaardige ontginning van grondstoffen en een verbetering van de landbouw en veeteelt. In 2010 richte hij in de provincie Kasai Tchikapa de coöperatie COOMIAP op (Coopéra ve Minière et Agropastorale Pambi). De ngo RESOLVE/DDI, die wil dat artisanale diamantcoöperaties ten goede komen aan de lokale bevolking, gaf hierbij advies. Vanwege zijn samenwerking met het AWDC (Antwerp World Diamond Center) verhuisde Emile Elasha in 2010 naar België.
De traceerbaarheid van diamanten en de veiligheid op het werk, zonder kinderarbeid, bleven voor Emile een centrale bekommernis. Hij ligt mee aan de basis van het pilootproject OrigemA voor faire en traceerbare diamant, waarvoor hij in 2023 tot ‘ambassadeur‘ is aangewezen. Emile Elasha slaagde erin de waardering en het vertrouwen van het AWDC in de 6 Congolese coöperaties voor exploitatie van grondstoffen (waaronder COOMIAP) te versterken. Dankzij Emile Elasha worden de 6 coöperaties nu internationaal erkend. Om de kansen op een uitvoerlicentie voor diamant te verzekeren - wat essentieel is voor de lancering van het pilootproject OrigemA in de DRCongo - wil Emile Elasha zijn bedrijf ELAK DIAMOND nieuw leven inblazen en een activiteit beginnen in de concessies van het overheidsbedrijf MIBA (Société Minière de Bakwanga). Grâce à Emile Elasha, les 6 coopératives sont désormais reconnues au niveau international. Pour assurer les chances d'une licence d'exportation de diamants - indispensable au lancement du projet pilote OrigemA en RDCongo - Emile Elasha veut relancer sa société ELAK DIAMOND et démarrer une activité dans les concessions de la société publique MIBA (Société Minière de Bakwanga).

In 2010, he founded the cooperative COOMIAP (Coopérative Minière et Agropastorale Pambi) in the province of Kasai Tchikapa.
